WORKS ON THE LA GENERAL HOSPITAL TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK – FINANCE MINISTER

Finance Minister,Ken Ofori-Atta has assured Ghanaians of the commencement of the most talked about La General hospital from Next week.

Presenting the 2024 budget statement in parliament today, the Finance Minister revealed that the government had revisited the contract terms of the Hospital Project and will now be funded through the national budget.

“We have revisted the Contract terms of the La General Hospital redevelopment project. The project will now be funded from the national budget, and the contractor is expected on site, from next week”, he assured.

BACKGROUND

The La General Hospital was demolished in July 2020 due to what authorities say were severe structural problems reported by the hospital’s administration.

President Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the reconstruction of the Hospital’s Redevelopment Project on August 10, 2020, but work has since not began.

Residents of La and its environs expressed anger over the undue delay, with the MP for the area calling on the first lady to intervene.

Health Minister,Kwaku Agyemang-Manu revealed that the Finance Ministry had successfully secured €50 million in local funding for the reconstruction of the hospital.
