Woman Re-Arrested in Koforidua After Boyfriend Dies from March Acid Attack

The case involves Vera Akosua Asare, a 29-year-old woman re-arrested in Koforidua, Ghana, following the death of her boyfriend, Daniel Omane, a 29-year-old mobile phone dealer.

The incident stems from an alleged acid attack in March 2025, where Vera is accused of pouring acid on Omane while he was asleep, reportedly due to suspicions of infidelity.

The couple, who shared a two-year-old daughter, had a strained relationship, with frequent misunderstandings leading Omane to end the relationship prior to the attack.

Neighbours, alerted by Omane’s screams, apprehended Vera and handed her over to the police. Omane was initially treated at the Eastern Regional Hospital and later transferred to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra due to the severity of his injuries.

Vera was granted bail on March 19, 2025, to care for their child but was re-arrested after Omane’s death, which occurred a few days prior to July 31, 2025, due to complications from the acid burns. She is now expected to face fresh charges related to his death.

The victim’s mother, Comfort Batsa, highlighted the family’s financial struggles, noting that they sold properties to cover medical costs and sought public support for approximately GHC60,000 for surgeries, as Omane required three grafting procedures at Korle Bu after overseas treatment was deemed unaffordable.

Vera is scheduled to reappear in court, with reports indicating a prior court date of March 25, 2025, though updated court details following her re-arrest are not specified in the available information.
