Woman Arrested Over Alleged Death Threats Against President Mahama and First Lady

The Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) of the Inspector-General of Police has arrested a woman identified as Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat, for allegedly issuing death threats against President John Dramani Mahama in a series of viral social media videos.

 

According to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service on Thursday, May 21, 2026, the suspect appeared in several TikTok videos that circulated widely online.

 

Police say the videos allegedly contained derogatory comments about the President as well as threats directed at his life.

 

Authorities further stated that some of the comments were considered inciteful and allegedly encouraged acts of harm against both the President and the First Lady, Lordina Mahama.

 

The Police explained that investigations were launched after the videos surfaced on social media on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

 

The operation involved a joint team from the IGP’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team and the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department.

 

The suspect was later arrested on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Sekyere Zongo in the Sekyere Kumawu District.

 

Police say Mahama Aminat is currently in custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days as legal processes continue.
