Windstorm Devastates Gusheigu, Leaves Schools and Homes in Ruins

Residents of the Gusheigu Municipality are grappling with the aftermath of a powerful windstorm that has destroyed homes and severely damaged key infrastructure, including several schools.

The storm, which struck without warning, tore through more than 20 communities, ripping off rooftops and leaving widespread destruction in its wake. Many residents have been displaced and are now seeking temporary shelter as they begin to assess their losses.

Among the hardest-hit facilities are Gusheigu Senior High School, Digbla Primary School, Zinnindo Basic School, and the Gusheigu Nursing and Midwifery Training College. Several of these institutions have had classroom blocks and administrative buildings completely stripped of their roofs.

School authorities say the destruction has brought teaching and learning to a halt, raising serious safety concerns for both students and staff, especially as the rainy season continues.

Residents describe the scale of devastation as overwhelming and are appealing for urgent support to rebuild homes and restore essential services.

Local authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage, while affected communities begin the difficult process of recovery.
