Volta North Police Arrest Two Suspects in Major Narcotics Trafficking Bust

The Volta North Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for allegedly trafficking substances suspected to be narcotic drugs in the region.
The suspects, Etornam Vumadzi (a driver) and Emmanuel Komlagah, were apprehended on Friday, January 30, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation.
According to a police statement issued on Saturday, January 31, and signed by the Volta North Regional Public Relations Officer, Inspector Felix Kwao, the two were intercepted while transporting the suspected narcotics from Godenu towards the Togo border in a Toyota minibus with registration number GT-6592-19.
A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered 18 sacks, each containing 36 yellow oval parcels, bringing the total to 648 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a third party, identified only as Joseph, contacted the police team by phone and attempted to offer a bribe of GH¢150,000 to compromise the operation. The suspects themselves also allegedly offered an upfront bribe of GH¢32,000. Both offers were firmly rejected by the officers.
The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court to face the full rigours of the law.
The arrest underscores ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to disrupt drug trafficking networks along border routes and protect communities from the dangers of narcotics. Investigations remain active to trace the source, intended destination and wider network involved.
