Violence Erupts in Accra: 2 Shot, 4 Injured in NPP-NDC Clash During Campaign Walk

Accra Campaign Walk Turns Violent

Accra, Ghana – A routine weekend political campaign walk at Mamobi in Accra turned violent on Sunday, resulting in two people being shot and four others sustaining injuries. The clash occurred between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to eyewitnesses, the altercation began as a dispute over which group would pass through a particular area first but quickly escalated into violence. Motorbike riders from the NDC side confronted NPP supporters, leading to a verbal altercation that turned physical.

“The situation intensified when one of the NPP supporters allegedly pulled out a pistol and fired several shots,” an eyewitness reported.

Police Intervention and Investigation

The Regional Police Command was deployed to contain the situation, preventing further violence. The Director-General of Police Operations, COP Mohammed Fuseini Suraji, urged both parties to exercise restraint.

“We are investigating the incident, and I call on both parties to remain calm,” COP Suraji stated.

Political Parties React

Both the NPP and NDC have condemned the violence, calling for peaceful campaign activities.

“We regret the incident and urge our supporters to maintain peace,” said an NPP spokesperson.

The NDC also echoed similar sentiments, stating, “We condemn violence in any form and will work towards peaceful campaign activities.”
