Two Dead as Small Aircraft Crashes Near Daycare Centre in Tema Community One

A tragic aviation accident claimed the lives of two men on Monday afternoon when a small aircraft crash-landed near a daycare centre at Site 18 in Tema Community One.
The aircraft, bearing registration number G9 ADV, went down at approximately 2:59 p.m. close to the TMA Daycare, sparking immediate alarm in the surrounding area.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service’s Tema Metro Fire Station responded with remarkable speed, arriving at the scene within three minutes of the distress call. Upon arrival, firefighters found the aircraft severely mangled from the impact and immediately launched rescue operations.
Due to the extent of the damage, extrication efforts were required to free the occupants trapped inside the wreckage. Sadly, both individuals onboard — two adult males — were pronounced dead at the scene.
Their bodies were carefully recovered from the debris and handed over to the Ghana Police Service for identification, autopsy, and further investigation.
Regional commanders from both the Fire Service and the Police in Tema were present to oversee the emergency response, secure the area, and coordinate efforts to manage the incident and support affected residents.
The crash site near the daycare centre raised immediate concerns for the safety of children and staff, though no injuries were reported among those on the ground.
Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the crash, including factors such as mechanical failure, weather conditions, pilot error, or other contributing circumstances. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Department and relevant aviation regulators are expected to lead the probe.
This incident marks a somber reminder of the risks associated with general aviation operations and has prompted renewed calls for stringent safety oversight in private and light aircraft activities around populated areas.
The Ghana National Fire Service and Police have urged the public to avoid the crash site to allow investigators unimpeded access while assessments and clearance operations continue. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
