Tsatsu Tsikata Cancels 50th Legal Anniversary Celebration in Wake of Tragic Helicopter Crash

Renowned Ghanaian legal luminary Tsatsu Tsikata has canceled a three-day event planned to commemorate his 50 years of distinguished legal practice, following the tragic helicopter crash in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region, on August 6, 2025.

The crash claimed the lives of eight individuals, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, plunging the nation into mourning.

In a heartfelt statement issued on Wednesday, August 6, Tsikata, a revered barrister and solicitor at Fugar and Company, expressed profound grief over the loss. “Following the tragic news of a helicopter crash that has sadly taken the lives of two Ministers of State and six others, the three-day event to celebrate fifty years of my legal practice is canceled,” he announced. “We are overwhelmed with grief, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased.”

The decision to shelve the highly anticipated celebration, which was set to honor Tsikata’s illustrious career as one of Ghana’s foremost legal minds, reflects the collective sorrow gripping the nation. The crash, which also killed Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former Parliamentary Candidate Samuel Aboagye, and three crew members—Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah—has prompted an outpouring of tributes and condolences across Ghana.

Tsikata’s milestone was to be a moment to celebrate his resilience, intellect, and contributions to Ghana’s legal and political landscape. Instead, it has become a somber reflection of a nation united in grief. As investigations into the cause of the crash continue, Tsikata’s gesture underscores the shared pain felt by Ghanaians in the wake of this national tragedy.
