Trader Poses as Soldier at 37 Military Hospital to Impress Nurse, Granted GH¢10,000 Bail

The Adabraka District Court has granted GH¢10,000 bail with two sureties to a 34-year-old trader accused of impersonating a military officer at the 37 Military Hospital in an attempt to impress a nurse.

Joseph Baada pleaded not guilty to charges of using military accoutrements without lawful authority and pretending to be a public officer.

He is expected to reappear before the court on March 24, 2026.

Presenting the facts, prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Apewah Achana told the court that the complainant, Warrant Officer Class One Fiamegu Mascow of the Military Police Detachment at Burma Camp, Accra, spotted the accused on February 8, 2026, around 6:00 p.m. at the dispensary gate of the hospital.

Baada was dressed in a military camouflage uniform paired with slippers, but lacked any rank insignia, lanyard, name tag or shoulder badge — raising immediate suspicion.

Upon confrontation, it was confirmed he was a civilian with no affiliation to the Ghana Armed Forces.

He was arrested and taken to the Military Police Headquarters at Burma Camp for interrogation before being handed over to the Nima Divisional Police Command.

In his cautioned statement, Baada admitted to wearing the uniform. He told investigators he purchased the camouflage outfit from Kantamanto Market and wore it specifically to impress a female nurse he had met at the hospital the previous day.

The court granted bail after considering the circumstances of the case.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the misuse of military uniforms and impersonation of public officers, offences that carry serious penalties under Ghanaian law. Investigations continue.
