Tonto Dike Reveals Long Battle With Addiction, Credits Spiritual Transformation for Recovery

Nollywood actress Tonto Dike has disclosed that she began smoking at the age of 13 and struggled with various forms of addiction, including alcohol and masturbation, for nearly 27 years.

The 40-year-old actress made the revelation during a Sunday service at Streams of Joy International Church in Nigeria, where she described her experiences as a period of “demonic oppression” that affected multiple aspects of her life.

According to Dike, her struggles were accompanied by what she termed “demonic anger,” which strained her personal relationships. She said her eventual recovery came through a renewed spiritual life, which she credited with helping her overcome the addictions.

Dike explained that her smoking habit began as a result of exposure to her father’s behaviour at a young age, and she used the opportunity to caution parents against exposing children to harmful habits.

“I started smoking at 13 because of what I was exposed to at home,” she said, urging parents to be mindful of the example they set for their children.

Following her testimony, Senior Pastor Jerry Eze prayed for the actress, declaring that “the burden of sin is broken” and describing her as “a voice in her generation.”

The actress’ public confession has since sparked conversations online about addiction, early exposure, and the role of faith in personal transformation.
