TikTok Content Creator Arrested in Kumasi for Spreading False Claims Against Police Officers

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested 45-year-old Isaac Boafo, popularly known on social media as “Duabo King,” for the offence of publication of false news with intent to cause fear and panic.

According to a police statement, Boafo’s arrest followed the viral circulation of a TikTok video in which he alleged that four police officers stationed at the Central Police Station in Kumasi had engaged in inappropriate conduct with commercial sex workers during night patrol duties at Asafo.

Acting on intelligence, officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate (Ashanti Region) tracked down and apprehended the suspect.

During interrogation, Boafo admitted to creating and publishing the video. He confessed that he fabricated the allegations purely to attract views, likes, and online engagement as a content creator. He further acknowledged that he had no evidence whatsoever to support the claims made against the officers.

The suspect also admitted to making additional unfounded comments about the President of the Republic in other content for similar purposes and conceded that he could not substantiate those statements either.

Boafo has been formally charged and remains in police custody to assist with further investigations.

In its statement, the Ashanti Regional Police Command issued a strong caution to the public:

“The Police wish to caution the public against the publication and circulation of false information, particularly on social media, as such acts have the potential to cause unnecessary fear, panic, and reputational damage. Persons found engaging in such conduct will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”

The arrest underscores growing police concern over the misuse of social media platforms to spread unverified and damaging information that could undermine public trust in institutions and incite unnecessary tension in communities.

The case is expected to serve as a deterrent to others engaging in similar conduct. The suspect is due to appear in court in due course.
