Three Remanded Over Assault on Teacher at West Africa Senior High School

Three individuals, including two students, have been remanded into police custody by the Adenta Circuit Court following their appearance on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, in connection with the violent assault on a teacher at West Africa Senior High School (WASS).

The suspects were arrested late Monday night around 11:30 p.m. and charged with offences related to the attack. They pleaded guilty to the charges and were remanded to reappear before the court on March 30, 2026.

The case has drawn significant attention from education authorities and teacher unions. In court to show solidarity were:

Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Hajia Katumi Natogmahattah, and her deputy

Municipal Education Directors from La Nkwantanang Madina (Philip Aidoo) and Adentan (Gifty Mussey)

Headmaster of WASS, Isaac Arthur Nyarko, and Assistant Head (Administration), Forabe Ayer

Headmistress of Frafraha Community SHS, Abena Agyemfra

Leadership and members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT Madina-Adenta-Abokobi Secretariat)

Staff from both schools

After the court proceedings, the Regional Director and her team visited WASS to reassure teachers and students of their safety and the authorities’ commitment to addressing the incident.

Hajia Natogmahattah urged students to maintain discipline, avoid truancy and misconduct, and focus on their education. The visit also aimed to boost morale among staff following the traumatic event, with officials and union representatives expressing full solidarity and pledging continued support throughout the legal process.

The assault occurred on Friday, February 13, 2026, when a group of intruders — allegedly linked to Frafraha Community SHS — returned to the campus and attacked teachers with sticks and clubs after an earlier confrontation over unauthorised visitors on school premises. One teacher, Mr Nicholas Teye, was seriously injured.

The incident has heightened calls for stronger security at inter-school events and campuses, with GNAT demanding swift prosecution and preventive measures to protect educators.

Investigations remain ongoing, and the court will reconvene on March 30 for further proceedings
