Three Nigerians Sneak into Ship at Apapa Wharf, End Up in Ghana Instead of Spain

Three Nigerian men have been arrested in Ghana after stowing away on a cargo ship in Lagos, believing it was headed to Spain — only to discover they had arrived in Ghana.
The suspects — Isaac Daniel (32), Stephen Nuta (28) and Kelvin Popoola (26) — are currently in police custody following their arrest upon the vessel’s arrival.
According to security sources at Apapa Wharf and Ghanaian authorities, the trio hid inside the ship in Lagos, hoping to reach Europe. They reportedly stayed concealed for the entire journey, only realising their mistake when the ship docked at a Ghanaian port.
The men were handed over to the Ghana Police Service after being discovered by the crew during routine checks at the port. They are being processed for immigration offences, including illegal entry and attempted unlawful migration.
The incident highlights the ongoing risks and desperation surrounding irregular migration attempts from West Africa. Many migrants continue to fall victim to misinformation about ship routes and destinations, often with dangerous or humiliating outcomes.
The suspects remain in custody pending further investigation and possible repatriation to Nigeria.
