Temporary Traffic Disruption on Ring Road East at Labone Junction

he Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced a temporary interruption to traffic flow on the Ring Road East at the Labone Junction in the Greater Accra Region.
The disruption, scheduled from Saturday, January 31 to Sunday, February 1, 2026, between 10:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., will allow the contractor, M/S Janson Bridging International BV, to launch the bow of a new pedestrian footbridge as part of ongoing road safety improvement works at hazardous locations.
During this window, diversions will be put in place to facilitate crane positioning and the lifting of the bridge structure. Motorists and other road users are strongly advised to follow all traffic management signs, obey diversion routes, and exercise patience.
The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service will be deployed at strategic points to assist and direct traffic, ensuring safety and order throughout the exercise.
The Ministry apologised for any inconvenience the temporary closure may cause and appealed to the public for full cooperation as the project progresses.
“We regret any disruption this essential safety work may cause and kindly ask road users to plan their journeys accordingly and cooperate with traffic personnel on site,” the announcement stated.
The new pedestrian footbridge forms part of broader efforts to enhance pedestrian safety along one of Accra’s busiest corridors, reducing the risk of accidents at the junction. Completion of the structure is expected to significantly improve safe crossing for residents, students, and workers in the Labone area.
