Temporary DVLA Office to End Long Journeys for Jomoro and Ellembelle Residents

Residents, drivers, and business owners in the Jomoro and Ellembelle Municipalities will soon no longer need to endure long, costly trips to Axim or Takoradi for Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) services.
The Member of Parliament for Jomoro and Deputy Minister for Transport, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, is set to commission a temporary DVLA office at Tikobo Number 1 (T1) by the end of March 2026. The facility, which is currently 85% complete, was inspected recently by the Deputy Minister herself.
Speaking to the media during the tour, Madam Affo-Toffey explained the importance of the project:
“If someone wants to register their car or apply for a new license, they currently have to travel all the way to Axim or Takoradi. Once this office is operational, they will no longer face that challenge.”
She described the initiative as a direct response to the daily struggles of her constituents, many of whom spend hours and significant amounts of money on transportation just to access basic DVLA services such as license renewals, vehicle registration, and driver testing.
Beyond administrative convenience, the Deputy Minister highlighted the economic benefits the office will bring to the local area:
“The presence of a DVLA branch will create jobs for our youth. It will open up various service and business opportunities tied to the facility’s daily operations.”
Madam Affo-Toffey clarified that while the government has already secured land for a permanent, modern DVLA office in the constituency, she decided to fast-track this temporary solution to provide immediate relief.
“As Deputy Transport Minister, I initiated this temporary project to ease the burden on our people right now,” she said. “This aligns perfectly with the Ministry’s agenda to bring essential services closer to citizens and make life easier for all Ghanaians.”
She expressed confidence that the new office will strengthen trust in government delivery and urged residents to continue supporting the administration’s transformation agenda in Jomoro.
The temporary facility is expected to begin operations shortly after commissioning, offering core DVLA services and significantly reducing travel time and costs for thousands of people in the two municipalities.
The announcement has been warmly welcomed by local drivers, transport unions, and business owners who have long complained about the inconvenience and financial strain of travelling long distances for licensing and registration.
