Tax Tussle: Nigeria Football Federation Drops Bruno Labbadia as Super Eagles Coach

In a shocking turn of events, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has rescinded its decision to appoint Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach of the Super Eagles. The announcement comes after contract negotiations fell through due to Germany’s stringent tax laws.
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau revealed that the tax implications were not part of the initial discussions and proved to be a major stumbling block. “We cannot cover the significant tax percentage on his salary that the German tax authorities would demand,” Gusau explained.
Augustine Eguavoen, the NFF technical director, will now take the reins and lead the team in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda. This marks Eguavoen’s fourth tenure as head coach of the three-time African champions.
