Suspected Military Impostor Apprehended by Civilians in Kumasi

A suspected impostor posing as a military officer has been apprehended by civilians at the Kumasi Airport Roundabout, following a dramatic incident captured in a viral video circulating on social media.
In the footage, the man is seen being confronted and physically restrained by a group of individuals who accused him of wearing a military uniform to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public. Despite attempting to resist, he was overpowered and subsequently escorted to the nearest police station.
Eyewitnesses allege that the suspect had been impersonating a soldier and using the disguise to intimidate and exploit civilians. The incident has since sparked widespread public discussion about safety and the growing concern over impersonation.
Under Ghanaian law, particularly the Restriction on Use of Military Uniforms and Equipment Act, 1967 (NLCD 177), it is a criminal offence for unauthorised persons to wear or possess military uniforms or related items.
The Ghana Armed Forces has repeatedly cautioned the public that such acts pose a serious security threat and erode trust in legitimate security personnel.
Authorities warn that individuals found guilty of impersonating military officers could face arrest, fines, or imprisonment of up to one year.
