Suspected Armed Robber Killed in Police Intelligence Operation in Ejura, Ashanti Region

One Dead After Gun Battle; Single-Barreled Gun, Live Ammo, Phone and Cash Recovered – Hunt Intensifies for Remaining Gang Members

A suspected armed robber has been killed during a targeted intelligence-led operation by the Police Intelligence Directorate in the Ejura municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The special anti-robbery operation took place on March 18, 2026, and was designed to dismantle a notorious robbery gang that has been terrorizing residents and commuters in the area for some time.

Police sources say the gang has been linked to multiple armed robberies along major highways and within Ejura and surrounding communities.

During the encounter, one suspect — identified as Amadu, popularly known as “Manu” — sustained gunshot wounds. He was rushed to hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have confirmed that the deceased was directly connected to a violent robbery incident on March 14, 2026, along the Atebubu–Ejura highway. In that attack, robbers opened fire on a moving vehicle, injuring one passenger.

Items Recovered

The following items were retrieved from the suspect at the scene:

  • One single-barreled gun
  • Five live cartridges
  • One Tecno Pop 10 mobile phone
  • Cash amount of GH¢200

The recovered firearm and ammunition are believed to have been used in recent robberies, providing key evidence linking the gang to the crimes.

Ongoing Manhunt

The Police Intelligence Directorate has intensified operations to locate and arrest the remaining members of the gang, who are still at large.

A police spokesperson emphasized that the operation remains active and that every effort is being made to bring the suspects to justice and restore safety for residents and road users in the Ejura area.

The police have appealed to the public for assistance:

“Anyone with credible information that could help in the investigation or lead to the arrest of the other gang members is strongly encouraged to contact the nearest police station or call the Police Intelligence Directorate hotline. Your information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.”

This latest development comes amid growing concerns over armed robberies on highways and in peri-urban areas of the Ashanti Region, with authorities vowing zero tolerance for such criminal activities.

The body of the deceased suspect has been deposited at the mortuary pending further investigations and possible autopsy.
