Suspect Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting of Woman and Two Children in Bawku

Police in the Upper East Region have arrested a suspect linked to the brutal shooting that claimed the lives of a woman and two children in Bawku last December.
The suspect, identified as Abdul Karim Osman, was apprehended from his hideout in Bolgatanga following intensive investigations into the incident that occurred on December 17, 2025, at Sabongari, a suburb of Bawku.
According to police and local reports, Osman and other accomplices allegedly stormed the residence of Abdullah Alima, where they opened fire indiscriminately. Alima and two children were killed in the attack, leaving the community in shock and grief.
In the days following the killings, a video widely circulated on social media purportedly showed the suspect brandishing a rifle and claiming responsibility for the deaths. While authorities have not publicly verified the authenticity of the footage, police confirmed it forms part of the evidence under review.
Osman is currently in custody at the Upper East Regional Police Command, where he is assisting investigators. The police say efforts are actively underway to locate and arrest other individuals believed to be involved in the crime.
The Regional Police Command has assured the public that the investigation is being handled with utmost seriousness and that all perpetrators will be brought to justice. No further details on motive or the full circumstances have been released at this stage, as the probe remains ongoing.
The tragic incident reignited longstanding concerns about gun violence and communal tensions in parts of the Bawku area, prompting renewed calls from local leaders and civil society for stronger security measures and peaceful resolution of disputes.
Authorities have appealed to anyone with credible information related to the case to come forward and assist the police. The bodies of the deceased were laid to rest following autopsies, and support is being extended to the bereaved family.
