Sports: Thomas Partey Vehemently Denies Rape and Sexual Assault Allegations

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has unequivocally refuted all accusations after facing charges of five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the United Kingdom.

These grave allegations stem from purported incidents involving three distinct women between 2021 and 2022. The CPS asserts that Partey stands accused of two counts of rape concerning one woman, three counts of rape involving a second woman, and a single count of sexual assault related to a third. He is slated to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5.

In a formal declaration issued by his legal counsel, Jenny Wiltshire, Partey categorically dismissed all claims. “Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name,” she affirmed, adding that Partey would refrain from further commentary due to the ongoing legal proceedings.

The Crown Prosecution Service, through Jaswant Narwal, validated the charges subsequent to what was described as a comprehensive review of an extensive dossier of evidence provided by the Metropolitan Police. “Our prosecutors have worked closely with officers in the Metropolitan Police who have carried out the investigation, to review the evidence and advise on the appropriate charges,” Narwal noted.

The CPS underscored the active nature of these criminal proceedings and emphasized the crucial importance of safeguarding the trial’s integrity. “We remind everyone that criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial,” Narwal stated. “It is absolutely vital that there is no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, spearheading the investigation for the Metropolitan Police, reiterated the force’s unwavering commitment to supporting those who have come forward. “Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward. We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team.”

These charges emerge merely four days after Partey’s official departure from Arsenal, coinciding with the expiration of his contract. During his nearly five-year tenure with the club, the Ghanaian international amassed 130 appearances, netting nine goals. Partey had joined Arsenal in October 2020 from Atlético Madrid after the London club activated his £45 million release clause.

Hailing from Krobo Odumase, Ghana, Partey commenced his European career with Atlético Madrid, where he made 188 appearances and contributed to the Spanish side’s Europa League triumph in 2018. His time at Arsenal was often marred by injuries, though he concluded with a robust final season, featuring in 52 matches across all competitions.

On the international stage, Partey has earned 53 caps for Ghana, scoring 15 goals. He remains a pivotal figure for the Black Stars.
