Sports Minister Kofi Adams: Andre Ayew Could Still Make Black Stars Squad for 2026 World Cup

Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has voiced strong confidence that veteran forward Andre Ayew remains a realistic candidate for inclusion in the Black Stars squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking in a recent interview, the minister pointed to Ayew’s continued active involvement in club football at age 33 and his impressive level of form as key reasons why the door is still wide open.

“I think he is picking up also. Once he has not retired and still playing actively, I won’t be surprised to see him in the Black Stars squad for the World Cup,” Adams said.

Ayew, Ghana’s most capped player of all time, has long been a central figure in the national team, providing leadership, experience, and clutch performances across multiple Africa Cup of Nations campaigns and World Cup appearances. His potential return to the squad continues to spark lively debate among fans, analysts, and former players.

While acknowledging Ayew’s enduring quality, Minister Adams was careful to stress that the final decision lies entirely with Black Stars head coach Otto Addo.

“It is the responsibility of the coach to decide whether to invite him or not,” he clarified.

The comments come at a time when the Black Stars are intensifying preparations for the World Cup qualifiers and friendlies, with squad selection expected to balance youth, current form, and the invaluable experience that veterans like Ayew bring to major tournaments.

Fans and football observers will be watching closely in the coming months as Otto Addo finalizes his plans, with many hoping the former Marseille, Swansea, and Al Sadd star can add one more chapter to his remarkable international career on the biggest stage.
