Sarah Adwoa Safo Announces Bid for Dome-Kwabenya NPP Parliamentary Ticket

Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has announced her intention to once again seek the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary ticket for the constituency.
In a statement dated 22 October 2026, Safo said she would present herself for consideration when the party announces the timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary primaries. She said the decision followed considerable reflection, extensive consultation and engagement with party leadership and executives.
Safo acknowledged that she had earlier indicated an intention to pursue opportunities beyond the constituency.
However, she said, on deeper reflection she had concluded that there was no greater honour or responsibility than representing the interests and aspirations of the more than 200,000 constituents of Dome-Kwabenya in Parliament. She said her decision was informed by her conviction that she has much to contribute to the constituency’s development.
She described her relationship with the people of the constituency as one that transcends politics, rooted in years of shared experiences, dedicated service, sacrifice and a common aspiration to build a constituency that works for all.
Safo described Dome-Kwabenya as one of the fastest-growing constituencies in Ghana, with significant opportunities and enormous developmental challenges. Over her last twelve years as Member of Parliament, she said, she worked with residents, party faithful, community and religious leaders and stakeholders to address many of those challenges and deliver tangible development.
Safo said that when she was elected in 2012, the votes the party inherited in the constituency were in the region of 35,000. She cited her own tallies as 63,373 votes in the 2012 election, 65,488 in 2016 and 75,041 in 2020.
She said the achievements were not hers alone, but reflected the dedication, sacrifice and commitment of party members, supporters and constituents who believed in a shared vision for the area. She added that the strength of the party lies in its unity, shared values and collective willingness to work together.
Safo said she aspired to build a constituency where young people can realise their potential, families can thrive and the concerns of ordinary residents receive due attention. She invited party members, stakeholders and constituents to engage with her in a spirit of openness and mutual respect as they reflect on the leadership needed for the constituency’s next phase of growth.
Safo represented Dome-Kwabenya in Parliament from January 2013 to January 2025. She lost the New Patriotic Party primary in January 2024 to Mike Oquaye Jnr, who polled 1,194 votes to her 328. Oquaye Jnr subsequently lost the seat in the December 2024 general election to Faustina Elikplim Akurugu of the National Democratic Congress, the first time the National Democratic Congress had won the constituency.
“Dome-Kwabenya is home,” Safo said, adding that her commitment to its people remains unwavering.
