Roads Minister Warns No Compensation for Structures Built Within Road Reservation on Dome-Kwabenya Corridor
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has warned property owners and developers along the Dome-Kwabenya–Berekuso–Kitase corridor that they will not receive compensation for structures built within the road reservation.
He said some individuals had continued to develop properties along the corridor despite being aware that the land had been earmarked for the road project.
Speaking to chiefs and residents in the area on Tuesday, September 22, Mr Agbodza urged property owners to stop putting up structures within the designated right-of-way.
He cautioned that government would not use taxpayers’ money to compensate people who knowingly constructed buildings on land reserved for the road project.
The Minister expressed concern over ongoing construction near the dummy roundabout, despite plans to dualise the road.
“I can see from the dummy roundabout, when you are coming from the roundabout, on your right-hand side, even as everybody in this country is aware that that section is going to be dualised, I could see some people busily building. Unfortunately, you will not get one cedi of compensation out of that,” he said.
Mr Agbodza said authorities would no longer tolerate situations where people knowingly violate development regulations and later seek compensation when infrastructure projects commence.
“We are tired of all these things where we deliberately watch people doing the wrong thing and, instead of letting them face the law, we rather start crying on behalf of the person who is creating the problem,” he added.
He therefore advised residents and developers along the corridor to refrain from further construction within the road reservation.
“So, if you are continuously building from the dummy roundabout, thinking that somebody is coming to pay you compensation, unfortunately, you won’t get one penny,” he warned.
