The 30-year-old man rescued from abductors, Bismark Amoh, has admitted during interrogation that he has been involved in mobile money fraud in the past, but insists he did not carry out the specific operation that led to his kidnapping.
Central North Police Commander DCOP Abraham Acquaye disclosed this on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem following the arrest of four people in connection with the incident.
According to the commander, the young man’s demeanour and responses during questioning led investigators to the admission.
“He confirmed previous involvement in MoMo fraud but maintained that it was his friend who used his phone for the latest deal that triggered the abduction,” DCOP Acquaye said.
Police say they now expect the man, having admitted prior involvement, to assist the investigation by leading them to the friend he claims was responsible.
“So we would expect that once he has admitted, we would expect that he would lead us to the person behind it because he who alleges must prove,” the commander stated.
Reports indicate that a teacher, Mavis Badu, was defrauded of GH¢44,800 from her bank and mobile money accounts.
In an attempt to retrieve the money, a friend of the victim feigned romantic interest in the alleged fraudster and lured him to Kumasi for a meeting.
DCOP Acquaye added that as the investigation proceeds, the man will be charged and processed for court.
