Put Ghana First: Bawumia Urges NPP Members to Stay United Ahead of 2028 Race

Former Vice President and leading contender for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on party members to put Ghana’s interests above personal differences as the NPP gears up for the 2028 elections.

In a heartfelt New Year message to NPP supporters, Dr. Bawumia stressed that winning power back in 2028 is the party’s main goal—and it should come before any internal rivalry.

He warned against letting rumors, distractions, or divisions weaken the party, saying such issues only help their political opponents.

To every NPP member, let’s keep our eyes on the prize. We must win 2028 for Ghana’s sake,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia urged everyone to avoid personal attacks during the flagbearership contest, which is set for January 31, 2026. Instead, focus on ideas, vision, and policies.

He explained that negative in-party fighting gives ammunition to rivals and could hurt the NPP’s chances with voters.

A united, positive campaign, he added, will make the party stronger and more appealing to Ghanaians looking for a return to NPP leadership.

With recent changes to broaden who can vote in the selection, this contest marks the official kickoff for the party’s 2028 preparations. Dr. Bawumia’s message is a clear call for discipline and teamwork to rebuild after recent challenges.
