Psychologists Debunk Viral Claim About Kissing and Longer Life

According to psychology experts, the popular claim that kissing your partner for 22 minutes every day can add seven extra years to your lifespan is not scientifically proven.
While affection and physical intimacy do offer genuine health benefits, psychologists say there is no evidence supporting such exact figures.
Experts explain that affectionate acts like kissing can help reduce stress, strengthen emotional bonds, and improve overall well-being through the release of oxytocin — often called the “love hormone” — while also lowering cortisol, the body’s stress hormone.
Studies have shown that people in healthy and supportive relationships often enjoy better mental and physical health, including improved mood, reduced anxiety, and better heart health. However, psychologists stress that longevity depends on many factors such as lifestyle, genetics, emotional stability, diet, exercise, and access to healthcare.
Rather than focusing on fixed numbers or viral relationship rules, experts encourage couples to prioritize genuine emotional connection, communication, and consistent affection as part of a healthy relationship.
