President Mahama Nominates Public Finance Expert Pamela Graham as Next Auditor-General

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Pamela Graham, a respected public finance expert, for the position of Auditor-General, subject to consultation with the Council of State.

The nomination was conveyed by the Secretary to the President and is in accordance with Article 70(1)(b) of the 1992 Constitution, which requires the President to seek the advice of the Council of State before making such an appointment.

Sources close to the Presidency indicate that the move is part of broader efforts to strengthen financial oversight, promote transparency, and rebuild public confidence in key governance institutions.

Pamela Graham is widely regarded for her extensive experience in public financial management, auditing, and institutional governance. She brings a strong reputation for integrity, professionalism, and technical competence to the role.

The Auditor-General is a pivotal position in Ghana’s accountability framework, responsible for auditing public accounts, ensuring compliance with financial laws and regulations, and reporting to Parliament on the use of public funds across state institutions.

The Council of State is expected to consider the nomination in the coming days and provide its advice to the President.

If confirmed, Pamela Graham will succeed Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, who has held the position since his appointment in September 2021.

This nomination is being viewed as a strategic step toward reinforcing fiscal discipline and good governance as the country continues its economic recovery efforts.
