President Mahama Hails Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings as a Pioneering Leader and Trailblazer

President John Dramani Mahama has paid a moving tribute to the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings at her State funeral. He called her a “pioneering leader” who changed Ghana’s political and social world.

Speaking through a representative, Mahama said Ghana is mourning a great woman. “Her influence, courage, and work will live on for generations,” he said.

He stressed that Nana Konadu was more than a First Lady. “She was a trailblazer, a strong voice for women, and a true patriot,” he added.

Mahama praised her bold life. “She spoke up, challenged wrongs, led with strength, and stood firm for Ghana,” he noted.

As First Lady, she turned the role into a force for growth. Her 31st December Women’s Movement helped women and girls in rural areas. It pushed literacy, health, early education, and jobs long before they were big issues.

“Her work touched thousands of families. It built the base for today’s gender policies,” Mahama said.

He also shared her warm side. “She was assertive but kind, funny, and loving to her family,” he recalled. She stayed dignified in tough times.

Nana Konadu believed in women and youth. “She used her voice to lift them up,” he said.

Her death is a big loss. “It closes a key chapter in our history, but her example will inspire us,” Mahama concluded.

He ended with: “May her soul rest in peace. Ghana will remember you.”
