President John Dramani Mahama has congratulated the Black Stars for securing Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

President John Dramani Mahama has congratulated the Black Stars for securing Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking the nation’s fifth appearance at the global tournament.

In a Facebook post on October 13, 2025, Mahama wrote, “Congratulations to the senior national team, the #BlackStars. Another qualification to the World Cup. #ResettingGhana,” celebrating the team’s 1-0 victory over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 12.

The hard-fought win, sealed by Mohammed Kudus’ second-half tap-in from a Thomas Partey assist, showcased Ghana’s discipline under coach Otto Addo, who became the first to lead the Black Stars to consecutive World Cup qualifications (2022 and 2026).

Despite a lackluster first half, with goalkeeper Benjamin Asare surviving an early error, Ghana capitalized on a Mohammed Salisu cross to clinch the match, supported by Mali’s 2-0 win over Madagascar ensuring Group I’s top spot.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa pledged enhanced diplomatic efforts with the 2026 host nations—USA, Canada, and Mexico—to secure favorable visa quotas for Ghanaian fans
