Premier League clubs have set a new record for summer transfer spending, with total expenditure reaching a staggering £3.41 billion.
The figure surpasses last year’s record of £3.14 billion, highlighting the enormous financial power of English clubs in the global transfer market.
The record was pushed higher by major deals including Enzo Fernandez’s £125 million move from Chelsea to Manchester City, following Manchester City’s £116 million signing of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest and Chelsea’s £117 million acquisition of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.
Liverpool also spent heavily, paying an initial £106 million for France international Bradley Barcola, with the deal potentially rising to £123 million.
Other significant transfers included Tottenham’s move for Sandro Tonali, which could reach £100 million, while Manchester United signed Carlos Baleba from Brighton for £70 million.
Interestingly, Premier League clubs are increasingly doing business among themselves. About 38% of transfer-fee deals this summer have been between English top-flight clubs, compared with 30% last year.
The trend reflects the growing value placed on players already proven in the Premier League, while foreign clubs are also believed to demand higher fees when English teams come calling.
Premier League clubs’ net spending has remained above £1 billion, comfortably the highest in Europe.
The scale of spending is further underlined by newly promoted Ipswich Town, who have reportedly spent more on new players this summer than European giants such as Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.
The record-breaking window once again demonstrates the Premier League’s financial dominance and its ability to attract and retain some of the world’s most expensive football talent.
