Police in Yeji Intercept Tata Bus with 396 Parcels of Suspected Cannabis

Police in Yeji, Pru East District, have arrested two men and impounded a Tata bus after discovering 396 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis hidden inside the vehicle.

The interception took place on Sunday, January 11, 2026, near the Barrier area in front of the Yeji Police Station, following sustained intelligence-led surveillance by the district command.

The bus, registered GR 3232 L, was stopped and searched. Officers uncovered multiple sacks containing the suspected narcotics. The parcels were counted and confirmed to total 396.

The driver, Seidu Alhassan, and his mate, Issah Osman, were immediately arrested to assist with investigations. Both suspects initially denied knowledge of the cargo until the parcels were offloaded and discovered.

Yeji District Police Commander, DSP Ahenkrah, told Adom News that intelligence indicated the vehicle was transporting illegal drugs. Preliminary information suggests the consignment originated from Bimbilla in the Northern Region, passed through Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, and was destined for further distribution.

The vehicle has been impounded, and the seized substances are being preserved as evidence. Arrangements are underway to forward the exhibits to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory for expert examination and confirmation.

The driver and his mate remain in custody pending further investigations. DSP Ahenkrah reaffirmed the Ghana Police Service’s unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.

The arrest forms part of intensified efforts to curb narcotics movement across regional borders during the festive season.
