POLICE FOIL ROBBERY ATTEMPT ON EJURA–NKORANZA HIGHWAY; ONE SUSPECT KILLED

The Ghana Police Service has successfully foiled a planned robbery attack along the Ejura–Nkoranza Highway following an intelligence-led operation in the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred on April 9, 2026, near Mimenaso No. 2, where a six-member gang was reportedly preparing to ambush and rob unsuspecting commuters. The group was believed to be led by Mahamadu Fuseini, also known as “Shaini.”
According to police sources, the operational team moved swiftly to the location after receiving intelligence about the gang’s activities. However, upon arrival, the suspects mistook the officers for potential victims and opened fire. The police returned fire, leading to the death of one suspect, while the others, including the alleged leader, escaped into nearby bushes.
A search of the scene led to the retrieval of a pump-action gun loaded with four live cartridges, two spent cartridges, and three assorted keypad mobile phones. Additional live ammunition was found on the deceased, along with a talisman tied around his waist.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Atebubu Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects and have assured the public of intensified security operations along major highways to ensure the safety of commuters.
The incident underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb armed robbery and maintain security across key transport routes in Ghana.
