Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Narcotics Haul and Alleged GH¢100,000 Bribery Attempt

The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the unlawful possession of narcotics and an alleged attempted bribery of police officers involving GH¢100,000.
According to a police press release dated May 11, 2026, the operation led to the seizure of 1,600 parcels of suspected Indian hemp during an intelligence-led operation at Akosombo-Bonya in the Eastern Region.
Police said officers from the Regional Police Intelligence Department (RPID) intercepted a Hyundai Rhino truck near Krobo Girls Senior High School after acting on a tip-off. The vehicle was later tracked to a location near Atua Government Hospital, where suspects were allegedly transferring sacks into a Howo Zonda tipper truck.

Although some suspects reportedly fled the scene, police secured both vehicles and the suspected narcotics.
Investigators identified one of the suspects as 39-year-old welder, Solomon Tettey, who allegedly claimed ownership of the vehicles and the illegal consignment, reportedly destined for Nigeria.
Police further disclosed that Solomon Tettey allegedly attempted to bribe officers with GH¢100,000 to compromise the investigation. Officers reportedly feigned interest to gather evidence, after which the suspect allegedly transferred GH¢90,000 via Mobile Money and handed over GH¢10,000 in cash.
Following the transaction, police officers, supported by the Regional Counter-Terrorism Unit and Odumase Police, arrested the suspect. Two additional suspects, Joshua Nartey and Teye Nartey, were later apprehended.
The suspects and all retrieved exhibits have since been handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department (RCID) for further investigations and possible prosecution.
The Ghana Police Service says it remains committed to combating drug trafficking and maintaining integrity in law enforcement operations.
