POLICE ARREST MAN IN VIRAL OFANKOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VIDEO; TWO SIBLINGS ALSO IN CUSTODY

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested John Odartey Lamptey, the man seen in a widely circulated Facebook video brutally assaulting a woman believed to be his wife at their residence in Ofankor, Ga East Municipality.
The arrest was carried out on Monday, 17 November 2025 shortly after the disturbing footage went viral, sparking nationwide outrage.
In a related development, two of the suspect’s siblings — Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey — were also arrested after they allegedly attempted to attack a female tenant suspected of recording and sharing the video. Police intervened swiftly and rescued the tenant, ensuring her safety.
Efforts are currently underway to locate the victim, who fled the house before officers arrived. She is being urged to come forward so that medical care, counselling, and protection can be provided.
The Police have condemned the incident in the strongest terms and reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on domestic and gender-based violence.

“The Ghana Police Service remains resolute in protecting victims and ensuring that perpetrators of domestic violence face the full rigour of the law,” the statement signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, CID Public Relations Officer, read.
All three suspects are in custody assisting with investigations and will soon be arraigned.
The public is encouraged to report any form of abuse to the Police Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) on 055-700-2000 or the nearest police station.
