The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the robbery and murder of a 40-year-old gold buyer, Seth Kobina, at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.
According to the Police, the incident occurred on August 20, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., when a group of armed men allegedly attacked the deceased’s gold-buying shop and shot him in the chest.
Seth Kobina was rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigations, including an examination of CCTV footage from the area, reportedly identified 29-year-old Emmanuel Amponsah, alias “Vandam”, as the alleged leader of the gang.
Police arrested Amponsah on August 21 at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges.
The suspect reportedly fell ill while in custody and was rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for medical attention. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Further investigations led to the arrest of three other suspects within the Agona Nkwanta area. They are 47-year-old Christopher Seyiri, alias “Cross and Die”; 20-year-old Bashiru Ibrahim; and 30-year-old Thomas Odoom, alias “Wale”.
Another suspect, Isaac Quayeson, alias “Last Burial”, was arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region.
A search of Quayeson’s residence resulted in the recovery of another locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.
During interrogation, Police said Quayeson identified the late Emmanuel Amponsah as the person who allegedly shot and killed the gold buyer. He also identified Thomas Odoom as one of the suspects captured in the CCTV footage.
