Police Arrest Five in Major Drug Busts Across Oti Region

The Ghana Police Service has arrested five suspects in two separate operations targeting suspected drug trafficking in the Oti Region.

The operations, carried out in the early hours of February 13 and 14, 2026, form part of intensified efforts to disrupt the transportation and cross-border smuggling of illicit substances.

First Operation – Thursday, February 13, 11:15 p.m.

A police patrol team intercepted a Hyundai Atos taxi (registration VR 188-16) on the Lekanti–Kute road. A search uncovered 48 compressed parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp concealed inside the vehicle.

The driver, Emmanuel Yao, 40, and an occupant, Felix Emulator, 37, were arrested at the scene. Both remain in custody and are assisting with investigations into the source and intended destination of the consignment.

Second Operation – Friday, February 14, 12:45 a.m.

Acting on intelligence, officers raided a premises at Tsikata, a suburb of Ahamansu, where narcotics had reportedly been packaged for smuggling to a neighbouring country.

A search led to the recovery of 166 compressed parcels wrapped in yellow masking tape and concealed in three bags and three sacks.

Three suspects were arrested at the scene. During preliminary interrogation, they denied ownership or knowledge of the substances.

All five suspects are currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations.

The Police say efforts continue to trace the origin, network and intended recipients of the intercepted drugs. They have renewed calls on the public to provide credible information to help dismantle trafficking operations in the region.

These arrests underscore the Police’s renewed focus on curbing drug-related crimes along border routes and transit corridors in the Oti Region.
