Police Arrest 32-Year-Old Suspect Over Disappearance and Alleged Murder of Accra Couple
The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the disappearance and alleged murder of Dr Jesse Amuah and his wife, Mrs Elizabeth Esi Amuah, in Accra.
The suspect, Abraham Awendok, who previously worked as an errand boy for the couple, was arrested following months of investigations into their disappearance.
According to the Police Service, investigations linked Awendok to the couple’s disappearance and the alleged killings. Police said he subsequently fled Ghana for the United Arab Emirates after allegedly taking the couple’s mobile phones, money and private vehicle.
He was later declared wanted through an Interpol Red Notice.
Suspect Deported from Dubai
Awendok was deported from Dubai to Ghana on August 30, 2026, by investigators from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and Interpol.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno said the suspect admitted to the killings during police interrogation.
The couple’s vehicle has also been recovered, while Awendok remains in police custody as investigations continue.
Couple Reported Missing in April
Dr Amuah and his wife were reported missing after relatives and associates became concerned when they could no longer reach them.
A formal complaint was lodged with the police on April 22, 2026, indicating that the couple had not been seen or heard from since March 23.
Police investigators subsequently visited their residence and discovered what they considered troubling signs, including a locked house and the absence of the couple’s Nissan Sunny vehicle.
Multi-Agency Investigation
The case triggered a multi-agency investigation involving the Missing Persons Unit, Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and Crime Scene Management Team.
Investigators visited the couple’s residence and pursued several leads in an effort to determine what had happened to them.
The investigation eventually led police to Awendok, who had worked for the couple and was believed to have left Ghana following the incident.
Police later recovered the remains of Dr Amuah and his wife. Their bodies were conveyed to the Police Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
Police Investigations Continue
The arrest represents a major breakthrough in a case that had attracted significant public attention and left the couple’s relatives seeking answers about their whereabouts.
Police have not disclosed further details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged killings, saying investigations are still ongoing.
Awendok remains in police custody as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths and determine whether other persons may have been involved.
