PAUL AFOKO HOLDS HIGH-LEVEL CONSULTATIONS AHEAD OF NPP NATIONAL CHAIRMANSHIP BID

Paul Afoko has begun a second round of high-level consultations with leading figures in the New Patriotic Party as part of efforts to secure the party’s National Chairman position.
As part of the engagements, Afoko met with former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate Mahamudu Bawumia, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
The latest meetings follow earlier consultations Afoko held with all five presidential aspirants before the NPP’s January 31, 2026, primaries, including Bryan Acheampong, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and Yaw Osei Adutwum.
Sources close to Afoko say the consultations form part of broader stakeholder engagements ahead of the party’s upcoming National Delegates Conference, with a focus on rebuilding unity after the NPP’s 2024 electoral defeat.
Afoko, who served as NPP National Chairman between 2014 and 2015, is campaigning on what he describes as a “3R Agenda” — Reunite, Rebuild, and Recapture — aimed at returning the party to power in 2028.
According to members of his team, the engagements are intended to tap into the experience of former leaders and strengthen internal consensus within the party.
The meetings with Dr. Bawumia and former President Akufo-Addo are considered significant due to their influence within the party, while the engagement with former President Kufuor is viewed as an effort to reinforce party unity and institutional memory.
Party insiders also indicate that Afoko used the meetings to caution against internal blame games and urged party members to focus on rebuilding cohesion ahead of the next election cycle.
He is also reported to have reiterated his belief that the NPP should prioritise competence over ethnicity in electing its next National Chairman.
The consultations come after earlier meetings with the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders and regional executives in Kumasi as part of a nationwide outreach campaign targeting party stakeholders and influential figures.
