Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, has denied authorship of a document circulating in the media that purports to be a memorandum from her to the Minority Chief Whip, Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh.
In a statement issued on September 4, 2026, she said the document alleges that she received and returned GH¢70,000 in connection with the vetting of ministerial and Supreme Court nominees.
“I did not write, authorise, or circulate this document. It is fake and should be disregarded by all,” she stated.
Hon. Appiagyei emphasised that she did not receive any payment of GH¢70,000, or any other sum, from any person in connection with the vetting of ministerial or Supreme Court nominees, or in connection with her duties as a member of the Appointments Committee.
“As I received no such payment, I had no occasion to return any such payment, contrary to what the fake document suggests,” she added.
She maintained that she has at all times discharged her duties on the Committee, including in the recent vetting, with integrity.
Hon. Appiagyei explained that she was at a funeral of a good friend when her attention was initially drawn to the fake news originating from her office. She assumed that the “FAKE” stamp which she authorised to be put on the document was enough until it assumed full prominence in the media.
She described the fabricated document falsely attributed to her as a serious matter and said she is taking legal advice on appropriate next steps once the source is established. She reserved all her rights in that regard, including against any person found responsible for the fabrication or knowing circulation of the document.
Hon. Appiagyei expressed the view that some faceless individuals are attempting to sow seeds of discord within the Caucus, but insisted that such efforts will fail.
She assured the rank and file of the New Patriotic Party and all Ghanaians that the Caucus stands united to rally behind the flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for victory in 2028.
