Parliament is set to resume sitting today, Monday, August 24, following a recall by the Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, to enable the House to consider urgent parliamentary business.
The five-day sitting will run from Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28, 2026, at Parliament House in Accra. Proceedings are scheduled to begin at noon today.
The recall was issued by the Speaker on Wednesday, August 12, under Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of Parliament.
Although the Speaker did not specify the matters to be considered during the special sitting, the recall comes at a time when several ministerial nominations submitted by President John Dramani Mahama are awaiting parliamentary consideration.
Among the nominees is Klottey Korle Member of Parliament, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, who has been nominated as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology following the death of the substantive minister, Murtala Mohammed.
President Mahama has also nominated Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
The President has further reassigned two other ministers to new portfolios.
The nominations were submitted to Parliament on Friday, August 7, in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, which requires presidential nominees for ministerial positions to receive parliamentary approval before assuming office.
Parliament is therefore expected to consider the nominations during the five-day recall, including the vetting and subsequent approval or rejection of the nominees.
The special sitting is expected to focus on the urgent parliamentary business for which the House was recalled, with proceedings continuing through Friday, August 28.
