Oyoko NPP Grassroots Members Protest Alleged Disqualification in Polling Station Elections

About 100 grassroots members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Oyoko, within the New Juaben North Constituency of the Eastern Region, have expressed anger over what they describe as their unfair disqualification from the party’s ongoing polling station executive elections.

The aggrieved members claim they picked up and submitted their nomination forms within the approved timelines but were allegedly denied the opportunity to contest by some constituency and regional executives.

Speaking to the media, convener of the group, Emmanuel Opoku, said the actions of the party officials have created disappointment, division, and frustration among loyal party members who have contributed significantly to the growth and success of the NPP over the years.

According to him, the situation threatens the unity and strength of the party’s grassroots structures, which remain crucial for mobilisation and election campaigns.

Mr. Opoku also accused constituency and regional leaders of remaining silent on the matter, describing their inaction as an attempt to suppress the legitimate concerns of party members.

He warned that the group may consider legal action if the matter is not addressed fairly.

The group has therefore appealed to the party’s National Executive Council to intervene and ensure justice, transparency, and due process in the conduct of the elections.

Mr. Opoku stressed that the NPP’s chances in the 2028 general elections would largely depend on fairness, unity, and transparency from the polling station level upwards.

Some of the affected members also called for equal treatment and a transparent electoral process within the party.
