Over 20 People Displaced After Fire Destroys Wooden Homes and Church at Konongo

More than 20 individuals have been left homeless following a devastating fire that razed several wooden structures and a church building in Konongo on Saturday evening.
The blaze, which broke out in the Newtown area, completely destroyed residential wooden structures, a New Life Pentecostal Ministry church building, and nearby container shops used by local traders. Personal belongings, household items, and church properties were reduced to ashes in the incident.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire spread rapidly through the densely packed wooden structures before firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service’s Ejisu Command arrived on the scene. The team worked swiftly to contain the flames and prevent the fire from engulfing adjacent buildings.
Assembly Member for the Konongo Newtown Electoral Area, Nana Kofi Gyau, speaking to Adom News, confirmed that the affected residents — many of whom lived in the wooden structures — have been displaced and are now without shelter or most of their possessions.
He appealed to the public, benevolent organizations, and relevant authorities to provide urgent support, including temporary accommodation, clothing, food, and household items, to help the victims recover from the loss.
Nana Kofi Gyau also urged residents across the community to be more vigilant with fire safety practices, such as proper handling of cooking fuels, electrical appliances, and open flames, to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The cause of the fire has not yet been officially determined, and investigations are ongoing. No casualties were reported, but the scale of destruction has left many families in urgent need of assistance.
Local leaders and affected residents are calling for swift intervention to support those displaced and to strengthen fire prevention measures in vulnerable areas of Konongo.
