Otto Addo Embraces Pressure as Black Stars Eye World Cup Qualification Against CAR

Ghana’s Black Stars head coach Otto Addo brushed off concerns about pressure ahead of their critical 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic (CAR) on October 8, 2025, at Stade d’Honneur de Meknès, Morocco, stating, “The so-called pressure that we have right now is normal.” Speaking to reporters, Addo emphasized the team’s composure and experience, noting that with Ghana leading Group I with 19 pointsthree ahead of Madagascar and four ahead of Comoros—the expectation to perform is expected with only two matches remaining.
Addo highlighted the squad’s blend of youth and veterans, saying, “The players are experienced enough. Surely, we have some young ones, but we also have experienced players who will guide them.” He expressed hope for an early goal to settle nerves: “I’m just hoping that we can have an early goal it will make things easier.” Consistency, he stressed, is key: “If you make too many changes, it’s difficult for the players to connect.”
Despite injuries to key players like Iñaki Williams, Mohammed Salisu, and Ernest Nuamah, the return of Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Alidu Seidu strengthens the squad, which includes stars like Thomas Partey and Mohammed Kudus. Addo remains cautious, warning against complacency after a narrow 2-1 win over Chad and a 1-1 draw with CAR in June 2024, with the neutral venue adding complexity. A win could nearly secure Ghana’s fifth World Cup berth, with Addo focused on fulfilling expectations: “We have to win.”
