Odo Broni Marks Daddy Lumba’s 62nd Birthday with Support for Mothers and Cancer Patients
The 62nd birthday of late highlife legend Daddy Lumba has been marked with an act of kindness, as his wife, Odo Broni, joined his sister Faustina Fosu, friends and family to support patients at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The group paid medical bills for new mothers who were unable to afford them and extended support to patients battling leukemia, turning what could have been a day of mourning into one centred on giving.
Each of the mothers she supported with the cancer-related donation received GH¢3,000.
She also footed the bill of all mothers who delivered on Monday, 29 September, in honour of Daddy Lumba.
According to her, she was inspired by Lumba’s late mother, Comfort Ama Saah Gyamfi, who battled leukemia.
“My mother-in-law had leukemia and died, and anytime my late husband spoke about her, he wept. That’s why I have come to donate money to mothers whose children are battling cancer.”
Odo Broni also used the occasion to celebrate the life and enduring legacy of her late husband, whose music continues to resonate with generations of Ghanaians.
In a tribute, she reflected on the impact Daddy Lumba made during his career, noting that although he is no longer physically present, his voice, songs and memories remain deeply connected to the lives of his fans.
She described his music as a source of joy, comfort and memories for millions, adding that his name and body of work would continue to inspire generations yet unborn.
Daddy Lumba, one of Ghana’s most influential highlife musicians, died on 26 July 2025 at the age of 60.
His 62nd birthday has therefore become another occasion for his family, friends and admirers to celebrate not only the man but also the musical legacy he left behind.
