Obuasi SHS Student Alleges Headmaster Slapped Her Over Menstruation

A female student of Obuasi Senior High Technical School has recounted an alleged incident involving the school’s headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, claiming that he slapped her after she told him she was menstruating.
The account forms part of wider allegations of sexual misconduct involving the headmaster and female students at the school. The student reportedly shared her experience during an interview with journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni.
According to the report, the student said the alleged incident occurred after she disclosed that she was menstruating. Her account has added to the concerns surrounding the allegations against the school’s headmaster and renewed attention on the protection of students in educational institutions.
The case has attracted public interest amid calls for the circumstances surrounding the allegations to be investigated thoroughly. The claims remain allegations, and the outcome of the investigations will be important in establishing the facts.
The Ghana Education Service has reportedly interdicted Abdulai pending investigations into the sexual misconduct allegations. The administrative decision is intended to allow the matter to be investigated and does not, in itself, establish that the allegations are true.
The service has also indicated that a complaint has been lodged with the police, while the investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the reported incidents.
The allegations have emerged against the backdrop of an earlier disturbance at Obuasi Senior High Technical School in August 2026, when students attacked the headmaster and damaged school property. Six students were reportedly arrested following the incident.
The unrest was linked to accusations made by some students concerning alleged activities on the school’s campus. Authorities subsequently called for calm and investigations into the events that led to the violence.
The Education Ministry directed the Ghana Education Service to investigate the disturbance and take appropriate action against anyone found culpable. Authorities also stressed the importance of maintaining discipline and protecting both students and school staff.
The latest allegations have brought renewed focus to safeguarding measures in schools, the responsibility of school authorities to protect learners, and the need for complaints involving students to be handled through appropriate investigative channels.
As investigations continue, the accounts attributed to the student and other complainants will need to be assessed by the relevant authorities. The headmaster’s interdiction should not be treated as a final determination of the allegations.
The case also underscores the importance of ensuring that students can report concerns and seek support without fear of intimidation, while allowing investigators to establish the facts fairly.
