Oboy Siki Retracts Defamatory Claims Against Yaw Dabo, Issues Unqualified Apology – Case Set to Close at Adum High Court

Ghanaian actor and comedian Oboy Siki has formally retracted all defamatory statements he made against his colleague Yaw Dabo, admitting that his earlier allegations were based solely on hearsay and unverified information.
In a statement confirming the development, Oboy Siki rendered an unqualified apology to Yaw Dabo, the affected individual, and the public at large. He expressed deep regret for the harm caused by his remarks and withdrew every allegation in full.
The dispute originated from comments Oboy Siki made during an interview on GhPage TV, where he allegedly claimed that Yaw Dabo was incapable of impregnating a woman, lacked the capacity to marry, did not own his football club, and used other derogatory and demeaning language regarding Dabo’s personal life and professional activities.
The statements prompted Yaw Dabo to file a defamation lawsuit at the Adum High Court in Kumasi, seeking GH¢1 million in damages for reputational harm, emotional distress, and loss of goodwill.
Following the initial court appearance in Kumasi, Oboy Siki issued a public apology and appealed for the matter to be resolved amicably. His legal team subsequently requested an out-of-court settlement, which the court granted, allowing both parties time to negotiate a resolution.
After further discussions, the parties reached an agreement. Oboy Siki has now fully complied with the terms by retracting his statements and tendering an unqualified apology. The case is expected to be formally closed at the Adum High Court in the coming days, with no further proceedings anticipated.
Neither party has publicly disclosed whether any financial compensation was part of the final settlement terms.
The resolution has been welcomed by fans and industry observers as a mature step toward reconciliation within Ghana’s entertainment fraternity. Legal experts note that the swift out-of-court agreement demonstrates the effectiveness of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in defamation cases, sparing both parties prolonged litigation while restoring dignity and professionalism.
Yaw Dabo and Oboy Siki are both prominent figures in Ghanaian comedy and acting circles, and many hope this chapter will mark the end of public animosity between them. The entertainment community has called for greater caution in media interviews to avoid similar reputational disputes in the future.
