Nurse Queried Over Viral Insults to Health Minister, Faces Disciplinary Action

The management of Nkenkaasu District Hospital in Ghana’s Ashanti Region has issued a formal query to staff nurse Bernice Aboagye for allegedly using “unprintable, inappropriate, and scandalous” language against Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh in videos circulating on social media.

In a letter dated October 10, 2025, signed by Medical Superintendent Dr. Samuel Freeman Mensah, the hospital cited multiple public complaints and attached video clips for Aboagye’s review.

The remarks are deemed a breach of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures, specifically:

Using inappropriate and rude language toward the Minister, violating Section 8.1(c)

Employing abusive words, contravening Section 8.1(1).

Tarnishing the GHS’s corporate image, against Section 4.1(d)

Aboagye must respond by October 24, 2025, explaining why disciplinary action should not be taken, with the hospital attaching the videos for her reference.

The controversy escalated on October 12, 2025, when Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh appealed for leniency, urging the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to “temper justice with mercy.
