The association cited numerous challenges leading to the strike, including the inability to pay for accommodation and utilities, transportation to various user agencies, and food at their workplaces. They also mentioned the need to borrow money to survive due to the non-payment of allowances, resulting in health complications.

According to the association, the government currently owes trainees five months’ allowance and university graduates three months’ allowance.

The association pointed out that, according to NSS rules and regulations, personnel who fail to report to their post for three months after being posted will be sanctioned. However, they have been working under harsh conditions without allowances for five and three months, respectively.

They likened the situation to slavery, stating that their workforce is undermined, and their service to the nation is not duly recognized.

The association emphasized that National Service Personnel are crucial to the success of many public and private institutions, and their productivity should not go unnoticed.

They called on all public and private stakeholders, including media houses, political leaders, and traditional rulers, to assist in advocating for the timely payment of allowances.
