The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been thrown into mourning following the death of Sylvester Amedza, Deputy Secretary of the party in the Banda Constituency.
Amedza passed away only months after being elected to the constituency executive position, bringing to an abrupt end a political journey characterised by active involvement in the party’s youth wing and efforts to support fellow members.
His death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from party colleagues, who described him as a dedicated and ambitious young politician with a strong commitment to the welfare of young party members.
Active role in TESCON
Before his election as Deputy Secretary of the NPP in the Banda Constituency, Amedza was actively involved in the Tertiary Students’ Confederacy Network (TESCON), the party’s student wing.
He served as TESCON President at Abetifi College of Education, where he reportedly became known for his efforts to support students and members of the organisation.
Colleagues particularly recalled his commitment to the welfare of TESCON members during his tenure as president, describing him as intentional about supporting those under his leadership.
Political ambitions
Amedza’s political ambitions extended beyond student politics.
In 2023, he contested the Assembly Member election but was unsuccessful.
He returned to electoral politics this year and successfully contested the Deputy Secretary position of the NPP in the Banda Constituency, taking up the role only months before his untimely death.
His passing has left party colleagues mourning a young politician whose political career was still developing.
