The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expanded the pool of delegates eligible to vote in elections for its National Youth Organiser and National Women’s Organiser, eliminating the need for separate special conferences for the two positions.
Under amendments to the party’s constitution, all delegates below the age of 40 will be eligible to vote in the National Youth Organiser election, while all female delegates will participate in the election of the National Women’s Organiser.
The changes mean both positions will now be contested as part of the party’s upcoming national elections, with a significantly larger delegate base than under the previous arrangements.
More than 2,000 delegates to vote for Youth Organiser
Speaking to the media on the outcome of the NPP National Council meeting, Chairperson of the party’s National Elections Committee, Frederick Opare Ansah, said the new arrangements had been approved by both the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Council.
“In this election, all delegates under 40 years will vote, and that significantly increases the number of delegates going to vote for the Youth Organiser. Currently, the number sits over 2,000,” he said.
He explained that the expanded electorate would also apply to the National Women’s Organiser election.
“For the Women Organiser, every female delegate will vote, as opposed to the previous arrangements where we had the Women Organisers and their deputies. All these arrangements have been approved by NEC and Council,” he added.
No separate conferences
Mr Opare Ansah explained that the significantly expanded voting base makes it unnecessary for the party to organise separate special conferences for the two positions.
The National Youth Organiser and National Women’s Organiser elections will therefore form part of the party’s broader national executive elections.
Dennis Miracles Aboagye set for uncontested win
Meanwhile, Dennis Miracles Aboagye is expected to be declared the winner of the National Director of Communications position on October 3.
He is the only candidate who filed and secured approval to contest the position, making his election effectively uncontested.
